Medical Director of University Clinical Laboratory

The Department of Pathology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine and the Detroit Medical Center seeks an academic, experienced clinical pathologist at the Professor or Associate Professor level.

The Detroit Medical Center University Laboratories (DMCUL), support a multihospital academic health care system of eight hospital sites including a specialized cancer hospital of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Comprehensive Cancer Center, a children's hospital and a women's perinatal care hospital.

DMCUL also provides a comprehensive range of routine and highly specialized laboratory services to a large outreach operation within the Detroit metro area and beyond. The laboratory performs approximately 15,000,000 billable tests per year and offers diagnostic / consultative services and opportunities for collaborative research to faculty and staff of the Wayne State University School of Medicine, the Detroit Medical Center.

The laboratory is highly centralized with a modern, automated chemistry instrumentation adding to a well-established diagnostic and research infrastructures. It also enjoys a state of the art Division of Molecular Genetics with diagnostic laboratories offering testing for inherited genetic diseases and a rapidly expanding molecular oncology molecular oncology utilizing next generation sequencing and array-based technology. These facilities also include cytogenetics, HLA and biomedical genetic labs.

The position offers tremendous research opportunities in partnership with the basic science and clinical faculty of the department and with its extensive collaborative clinical and translational research programs.

Applicants must be certified by the American Board of Pathology in clinical pathology. Subspecialty training and/or experience in chemistry is desirable.
